Hey Megan,

I came across your blog while doing a scan for anything Hill & Knowlton. I enjoy that you blog for the same reasons I do – love of writing and for sharing with others things you find interesting. I am also in PR and what brought my attention to your blog was your post “Unhappy at work? Too bad..” – having interned at an agency before I can really appreciate your list! Thanks!

Hey chica! I got onto MSN randomly a while back and saw you had this mentioned in your account. Figured I would drop you a line and see what you are up to lately.

Obviously you are working at a PR firm. Not sure if they have you managing companies disasters or putting out all the press releases for good PR stuff. MPR campaigns are fun but I’m not sure how much of that you are getting into.

As for me – I graduate in 20 days with my MBA …and can’t find a job. At least, I can’t find a job doing anything I want to do. I’m battling with the whole ‘take a job for the sake of having one’ vs. ‘waiting for a job you want’ thing. I’ve accepted the fact that I’ll graduate with more debt than salary…

Hope all is well. Also, you didn’t credit me with those pictures from La Palma, but it’s okay.

I just read about this today. I think it was in Marketing Daily. So even though the results were announced on such a busy day for media, the news was obviously still relevant enough to talk about days later. I think this is the kind of news that will be timely for a while.

I didn’t know MTL is Boardwalk! That’s pretty effing cool.

I’m actually mad, though, that Ottawa’s not on there. And not just because I love the city so damn much! It’s the freaking capital of our nation! I think leaving Ottawa out perpetuates the international thought that Toronto is Canada’s capital.

I probably won’t buy it, though. Good ol’ classic Monopoly still does the trick : )

Very intuitive stuff here for sure. One thing that I have found very helpful when working with interns is to always, always give clear direction, before the start of an initiative. Clear direction, given a week into the project is never helpful.

Good luck in your “interning”. I bet H & K is a great place to cut your teeth.

You’ve noted important factors on that list, Megan, and I’d add a few more: allow for creativity, provide a challenge and provide opportunity. If, at the end of the internship, you can walk away with a stellar portfolio and the energy and ideas to pursue PR, you’ve got a great base for success.
Glad to see that someone else got something “more” out of their internship.

I don’t think this dislike/anger should be saved for just one carrier. While Rogers is doing the iPhone disaster (re: withholding information and lack of PR on one of the most anticipated product to the Canadian market place in years) main stream media is ignoring all the other blunders that Bell and Telus are doing.

Bell, Telus to charge for incoming text messages.

Here are a few comments from other blogs on this subject:

“This charge is unbelievable. If someone sends me “spam” on my Bell phone, I have to pay for it? I made the mistake of giving my cellphone number to a car rental agency and now I get spam text messages,” a Bell customer ranted on a Canadian technology blog.

“I actually work for Bell and I think this incoming text messages being charged is bogus!” posted another.

So in the end, which carrier isn’t going to screw you over in the Canadian market place?? Or could the real answer to this be deregulation??
